Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Wegovy are injectible medications currently being prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes and/or weight loss, as permissible by the FDA. Ozempic and Wegovy are known as semaglutides, which work by stimulating insulin production to reduce glucose production in the liver, aiding in lower blood sugar levels. Mounjaro is also known as tirzepatide, which targets the body’s receptors for GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). All three drugs belong to a class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Patients have reportedly become extremely ill after starting injections, experiencing paralyzed stomachs, also known as gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a serious medical condition that interferes with digestion, causing nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, a feeling of fulness after eating just a few bites, vomiting undigested food, undigested food that hardens and remains in the stomach, acid reflux, changes in blood sugar levels, lack of appetite, weight loss, malnutrition, and an overall decreased quality of life. There is no cure for gastroparesis, and extreme cases may cause death as a result severe dehydration.
